Get Your Home Ready for Holiday Guests

The holidays are coming, and along with them, plenty of house guests.  There are quite a few things to do so that your home can handle all of the extra foot traffic.  The best furniture store at the Lake of the Ozarks has a few tips for you to get your house ready to welcome friends and family.

Clutter Control

You will want to make sure that all common areas are clear of anything that doesn't belong there. Next, areas that will be used more than they normally are, like extra bedrooms and spare bathrooms, will need to be straightened up.  This could be quite a job if you use any of those rooms for extra storage space.  You want your guests to feel at home, not like they are sleeping in a giant closet.

If you have any unfinished projects looming around the house, like painting a room or hanging extra towel hooks, now is the time to complete them.  If there isn't enough time, tidy the area as much as possible, or block off that room completely.

Make Room

Extra people in the house calls for extra usable space.  First of all, make room for everyone to hang their coats while they are visiting.  Rearrange your hall closet to fit more, or use a hall tree placed near the front door.  Also, it's time to add the extra leaves to your dining room table.  If your guests will be spending the night, clear space for their personal items in the bathroom.  Before they get there, decide where everyone will be sleeping.

Creature Comforts

The best hosts make their guests feel at home.  Make sure that you have extra towels, blankets, and pillows ready and easily accessible.  Double-check that all soaps, shampoos, and other like items are not only full, but the backups are simple for guests to find.  Stock the kitchen with a few of their favorite items.

Plan Ahead

If you make a plan before everyone arrives, it will be a lot easier to accomplish. Finish grocery lists and make sure that you have all of the kitchen items you need to both prepare and serve holiday meals.  If group outings will be a part of your activities, like parades or viewing lights, mark them clearly on the calendar with times and directions.  Gather anything that you need to take care of any special traditions that you have with your family and friends.

A little organization goes a long way in helping you get ready for a house full of guests.  When you get everything taken care of before they arrive, you will have more time to sit, relax, and enjoy their company.  After all, that special time with your loved ones is really what the holidays are all about.

During all of that holiday planning, if you discover that you need to add a few furniture items to make your home guest-ready, pay us a visit at Slumberland Furniture in Osage Beach.  We are happy to help you discover the items that will make your guests the most comfortable.
