Creating a Cozy Bedroom for Winter

As the days get shorter, the nights get longer and it becomes oh so cold, there’s nothing quite like melting into the comfiest, coziest bed and never wanting to leave it! At Slumberland at the Lake of the Ozarks, not only can we help you find the best mattress at the Lake of the Ozarks, but we can even help you deck out the bed, and add the last finishing touches to your room to make it oh so cozy. Just be careful, you really won’t want to leave it once you let Slumberland help you finish it up!

Warm Up Your Decor

Color schemes can make a huge difference in the way your home and room feel. As you plan out the colors for winter, try to choose more warm and cozy tones. You can repaint your room, or just pair home the right golds, oranges, and reds to make your space feel oh so warm and welcoming. If you aren’t planning on repainting your space, you can still make a huge impact with rugs, furniture, and accessories. Hmmm … I wonder who can help with that?

Pile on the Blankets and Pillows!

You really can’t have enough of those soft, fluffy throws, large cozy quilts, and fluffed up pillows. Adding a quilt to your bed and layering the plush pillows to make your space feel both comfortable and luxurious. Jump in bed and sink into the luscious softness - it’s time to hibernate!

Let There Be Light

There’s nothing cozier than a warm fireplace or the warm glow of lamplight. Just the flickering of the flames can make you feel cozy and warm, and if it is an actual heating unit, then you should be golden. At Slumberland, we not only carry the best lamps, but we also have electric fireplaces to complete your space.

Nighty-Night Stand

If your bedroom doesn’t have a nightstand yet, it needs one! It doesn’t have to match your other bedroom furniture, or it can if you want it to. You can pair up something cute and eclectic if you want a simple and unique look, or find something to match what you already have in your room. Add a small lamp that you can dim, a candle, a book or two, and a trivet for that hot cup of tea, and your inviting little space will be begging you to come and stay for a while.

Add Some Area Rugs

If you want to add warmth and comfort to your room, area rugs are where it’s at. You can keep area rugs under tables and furniture, toss one down the hallway leading to your bedroom, and always make sure you have rugs to block the cold floors in your bathroom. The goal is to create a space that begs for you to dig your toes in, and creates warmth and coziness.

Creating the Perfectly Cozy Space with Slumberland Furniture

Our team is ready to help you create a space that is both welcoming, comforting, and oh so cozy. Winter is here, and as much as you may want to cuddle up under the covers and never leave, bribing you to come out to Slumberland to warm-up could be just what you need. Create THIS Look with Slumberland!

Slumberland furniture at the Lake of the Ozarks offers you the ability to create many different styles for any room in your home. We often come to mind when you want to buy a mattress at the Lake of the Ozarks, but did you know we have a large line of exceptional furniture at the Lake of the Ozarks as well? 2020 is going to be YOUR year to create the home of your dreams through well thought out pieces and aesthetic designs, and we want to help. This week, we’re going to take a beautiful and cozy photo and show you how you can re-create this exact look in YOUR home with pieces from Slumberland Furniture!

The Modern Farmhouse Bedroom

2020 is all about the Modern Farmhouse look, and Slumberland has everything you need to create the look in your home. This bedroom is a combination of textures and colors, but it also combines the stereotypical modern farmhouse look through the combination of wood and metals. If you like the look of this room, here are the pieces that make it up - it can be YOURS!

Furniture Pieces

The pieces you use to make up your room are the base. They quickly set the tone for the room, but they are also some of the most functional pieces in the space as well. You will sleep in the bed every night, grab your glasses from the nightstand each morning, and keep accessories (like a picture from your last vacation) and fun nick-knacks on the accent shelf. Check out these pieces that make up this room:

• San Mateo Tuscan Queen Storage Bed
• San Mateo Tuscan Nightstand
• Natures Edge Console Table
• Gerrit Bronze Circular Accent Shelf
• Sweed Natural Pouf Ottoman

Soft & Cozy Pieces

This is especially important during the winter months, but having something soft and cozy to squish your toes into, or dramatically crash on top of at the end of a long day is so emotionally fulfilling. A home is a haven, and nothing quite says welcome home like the soft and cozy accessories. Check out these pieces that make up the room above. You can find duvet covers, awesome accent pillows, and the coziest rugs at Slumberland Furniture!

• Belfast 6 Piece Cream Queen Duvet Set
• Aztec Mission Primary Colored Down Pillow
• Aztec Red and Yellow Fade Down Pillow
• Wild Thing Gray 5x8 Area Rug

Wall Art

Wall art is such an impactful part of home design. A strategically placed mirror or piece of art can really make your space feel complete. Did you know that Slumberland has a huge selection of art pieces and wall accents? The pieces that make up our room above can be found on our website!

• Horse Sage Wall Art
• Tamarine Teak Wood Wall Art
• Mettle Round Bronze Wall Mirror

Lamps & Accents

These types of pieces may be small, but they are so very powerful. The lamps in your home not only provide much-needed light, but they also help create the ambiance. Overhead lights are often very overpowering, especially in the evening (and it’s evening a LOT during the winter!), lamps cast the perfect glow. Accent pieces can be as simple as something sentimental, but they can also be made from unique pieces that you find in a home design store at the Lake of the Ozarks.

• Valence Brown Table Lamp
• Ashlea Brown Wooden Sculptures

Cozy, Comfortable, and Creative!

Winter is the perfect chance to take a look at your home and make it feel new, special, and unique. The Making of a Modern Farmhouse

The farmhouse style is taking on a bit of a metamorphosis in 2020, and we’re loving the tweaks! Imagine the coziness of a farmhouse combining with the structure of a modern home, and you’ll have what’s known as the Modern Farmhouse. If you are wanting to create this in your home, here are a few tips straight from Slumberland Furniture at the Lake of the Ozarks to help you get started, as well as a few pieces that can make it possible!

Keeping It Neutral

Cool or warm neutrals are still trending when choosing the colors for your home. In the past, everything was about crisp white and strong black with some gray in the middle. This year it won’t be uncommon for you to see a palette that goes from beige and cream to taupe and tan. Cool or warm neutrals can create a fresh and airy look which creates the perfect look for a Modern Farmhouse. Looking for the perfect piece? Check out this sofa for your modern farmhouse!

Consider Contrast

What sets the modern farmhouse apart is that it is a contrast between styles. Contrast generally refers to colors, but this time, think of it as a contrast between materials, textures, materials, and even colors. The farmhouse style is a nod to nature, while modern has a touch of industrial. This means you’ll be seeing natural fibers and rustic wood paired with sleek metal and glass. This can be an especially fun style to create in a home, and we look forward to helping your furnish a Lake of the Ozarks vacation home. Not sure where to start? Check out this bed!

If you aren’t the type who wants formal, fussy, and precious pieces, the modern farmhouse style is for you. When creating your luxury lake home style, you want a home that is meant to be lived in. It’s time to make memories and get comfortable because the furniture you’re going to choose is going to be the perfect combination. Check out this console table to keep things organized.

Home Furnishing Trends in 2020

With a new year comes a “new you” or in our case, a new home style! New seasons bring about the desire for change, and this can be a strong impulse when you have the Christmas decorations freshly put away and your home looks empty and boring. If you’re beginning to feel like a change is in order, whether in your home or your vacation house at the Lake of the Ozarks, Slumberland at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to help! Here are a few trends you will notice popping up in homes this year, and how we can help you achieve the look you desire!

Timeless and Evolving

One popular thing you’ll see right now is really honing in on your personal style. From a complete renovation of your home to simply changing up the furniture, this season is when people are really thinking long term with their pieces and choosing furniture and accessories that really mean something to them.

Country Chic

The typical farmhouse style may be waning a bit, but the natural and casual style is still here. Think of farmhouse meets sophisticated, with a bit of European-inspired flair and you’ll have a good idea of what will be in style in 2020. It’s basically a fresh take on a British farmhouse without a stuffy air. Classic prints, some whimsy, as well as antique details will all be found in homes throughout 2020.

No More Neutrals

The neutral shades we have been used to are being replaced by warm colors, saturated hues, and jewel tones. You will find these colors on cabinetry, walls, accents, and furniture! Many places are predicting shades of pink as well as soft peachy corals, terra cotta, and other shades that make you feel grounded with a touch of softness.

Patterns On Everything

Patterns are going to be huge this year, and especially layering the patterns on everything. From tabletop and textiles designs to pillows and rugs there are no rules and nothing is safe from the pattern explosion!

Naturally Luxurious

In a time when people are more conscious about where things are made, how they are made, and even the materials they are made from, natural materials will be making a strong appearance this year - but with a luxurious spin. Marble will be popping up on all types of surfaces and accents, as well as linen, plaster, lime wash, cane or raffia, rustic woods and more.

Unique Area Rugs

Because this year is all about patterns and textures, this will also affect the area rugs that are being chosen. Last year a trend was obscure shaped rugs, and it’s still continuing this year, but with the added bonus of unexpected materials being woven into rugs.

Making Your Home Beautiful limewash

Whether you want to redesign a vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks or complete and long-term project on your primary residence, 2020 is the year to accomplish this goal! Slumberland Furniture has an enormous line of furniture at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we can find something to match any style or color scheme. Looking for something specific? Let us help! We look forward to helping you create the home of your dreams in 2020 - let’s get started!

Ways to Prepare Your Home for Winter

At Slumberland Furniture, we know how important your home is to you. Whether you live full-time at the Lake or you have a vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks, it’s still important to consider who your home will fair through the winter and get it prepared. While we focus on the indoors through beautiful furniture at the Lake of the Ozarks, we know that the outdoors is just as important. Here are a few tips to help get your home ready for the impending winter cold and weather.

Install Weatherstripping

It’s time to check your home’s exterior doors for cold air leaks. You’ll start from the inside of the house, and you can move a lit candle around door frames and windows. If the flame blows toward you, then there is a draft. You can seal up drafty doors by installing foam or felt weatherstripping inside the door frame.

Seal Attic Leaks

Do you know that as much as 30% of your heated or cooled air could be leaking outdoors? It’s time to find and seal the gaps that are allowing your “paid air” to escape. You can pull back the attic insulation to find and seal cutouts in drywall for the electrical fixtures, pipes, fans, and outlets. You can also look at your wiring, chimneys, flues, vent stacks, and ducts, and seal them from the inside.

Close the Damper

If you leave the fireplace damper open, the heated or cooled air will fly up the chimney. Make it a habit to always shut the flue after the fireplace has cooled down. As the temperatures get colder, you’ll probably be using your fireplace more, so this can be a really easy task to forget.

Insulate the Attic (More!)

This is a task that is best left to the professionals, but if you haven’t checked the attic insulation in a while, or you don’t even know when it was installed last - this could be a good year to make sure that it’s up to speed. So much warm air can seep out of your home through the attic.

Install a Programmable Thermostat

Did you know that a programmable thermostat can save up to $180 a year on fuel costs, according to EnergyStar? The thermostat can save fuel because it can automatically lower or raise your one’s temperature while you’re away. It can also keep your temperatures consistent, saving fuel.

Seal Furnace Ducts

Your heating ducts can waste 20-30% of the heated air they carry. Leaky heating ducts mean higher utility bills and a house that’s harder to keep warm. The appliances like water heaters and furnaces can cause the buildup of dangerous gases like carbon monoxide through back-drafting. Sealing the leaks can reduce the risk, but you will want to check with professionals before digging in.

Reverse Your Ceiling Fans

When the weather gets cold and you use your furnace, it’s time to reverse your fan blades in a clockwise direction. The fan will produce an updraft and push the heated air down into the room. If you have high vaulted ceilings (which are incredibly common at the Lake), you may find that this can even allow you to turn down your thermostat by a degree or two for greater energy savings!

Creating a Home that is Beautiful and Warm!

Winter is here and it will be for a few months, which means that NOW is the time to make things cozy and comfortable. While your busy filling in the holes and making sure there aren’t drafts - we can help you add warmth in your family and personal spaces. From cozy beds and bedding to comfortable couches and other living room furniture - Slumberland at the Lake of the Ozarks is here to help you make your house a home. Stop by our showroom to take a look at the beautiful and affordable pieces we have. We look forward to helping you cuddle up and stay warm this winter!
