Adding a Fall Flair to Your Home

We realize that it doesn’t exactly feel like fall at the Lake of the Ozarks just yet (yes, we’re looking at you 93º and blazing hot out there), but it will be here before you know it! If you’re itching to get into the fall spirit with some pumpkin spice and flannels, maybe starting with your home is the best way to go. The first day of fall is September 23rd, so this weekend would be the perfect time to deck out your home or your vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks (especially because it’s still very much boating season down here!). Check out these fun ways to add fall flair to your luxury lake home.

Natural

If you’re planning on decorating your home with fall-themed items, the best way to go about it is using things that are themed by Mother Nature herself. Twigs, branches, flowers, and even hay or straw can be the perfect way to set the stage. Bowls of chestnuts, acorns, or pinecones can be really pretty (if you don’t have young kids anyway), and they have a very natural and beautiful appeal to them. You may not want to bring these items straight from the outdoors, but you can find a variety of styles at your local home decor stores at the Lake of the Ozarks. These items come in the perfect autumn shades, as well, because they basically invented fall!

Pumpkins

While you may not (or maybe you are!) ready to indulge in all things pumpkin on your menu, it’s still a great time to start scattering these bright orange gourds around your home. You don’t even have to carve the pumpkins, that’s is primarily for Halloween - if you are looking for a luxury style, a pumpkin in all it’s natural glory can be perfect for your space. One pretty pumpkin can make a huge statement in a centerpiece on your table, or set on your bar - and when it starts to get old, you can go pick up another from your local grocery store for a few dollars and start over!

Candy Corn

Bear with us, having candy around the house sounds like it just invites trouble for your our waistlines - but Candy Corn is different. It’s one of those candies that for most are the perfect “in a pinch” sugary treats, but it’s not something that you binge on (though … we know that some of you wait all year for these festive fall candies - go you! But for the rest of us … ). Candy corn can be an easy way to incorporate the colors of fall without investing in and storing a bunch of decor - plus, candy corn isn’t going to rot on your counter or attract bugs. You can pour a bag of candy corn into a pretty vase or even a plain glass bowl, and then place a candle in the center - voila! A perfect easy centerpiece that takes just minutes and very little investment.

Firewood

One of these days, firewood will be needed (c’mon cool fall evenings!), and when they do, you’ll start seeing the firewood at the supermarkets. You can buy a bundle and place it in a magazine rack or basket. You can even just tie it with some thin rope and place it as your centerpiece, or even on the floor by a fireplace, or on the front steps of your home. It will have a faint aroma of wood that a candle can never achieve, and you’ll love it.

Falling for Fall

There’s something so cozy and welcoming about the fall season. Maybe it’s the fact that Thanksgiving is nestled quietly in the center, perhaps it’s the seasonal scents, or maybe it’s just that this change of seasons can make everyone take a deep breath after a busy summer season. Either way, we’re all about it. If you’re looking to decorate a Lake of the Ozarks home, stop by Slumberland at the Lake! We have WAY more than mattresses and furniture at the Lake of the Ozarks, and we would love to help you create a space that is comfortable, welcoming, and beautiful. Happy fall ya’ll!

It's a good life!
