Celebrating Slumberland’s 54th Anniversary & Fourth of July!

July is a big month, both for Slumberland and for our country! July 4th is the anniversary of our nation’s publication of the declaration of independence. It’s been 243 years since the declaration of independence was signed - and while much younger, it’s also been FIFTY FOUR years that Slumberland has been in business! We are so proud to be a part of a company that has not only been operating for so many years but who is also so loved by its employees and customers.

In celebration of both big anniversaries in July, here are a few fun facts about the Fourth of July, and a quick alert to the fantastic sales you can look forward to this month.

Fourth of July 2019

• Only John Hancock actually signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. All the others signed later.

• The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men from 13 colonies.

• The stars on the original American flag were in a circle so all the Colonies would appear equal.

• The first Independence Day celebration took place in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776. This was also the day that the Declaration of Independence was first read in public after people were summoned by the ringing of the Liberty Bell.

• President John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe all died on the Fourth. Adams and Jefferson (both signed the Declaration) died on the same day within hours of each other in 1826.
