Resell it.

If you've got some extra energy and a free weekend, host a garage sale. You can get rid of a lot of old stuff all at once while making a little cash. If that sounds like too much work, but you would still like to sell it, go online. You can find local "garage sale" type groups where you can post a picture and a price, and the buyers reach out to you. Some thrift stores will sell your items for you on consignment for a portion of the profit. 

Donate it.

If you aren't worried about making any money off of your old furniture, but it is still in good, usable condition, someone else out there would most likely love to take it off of your hands. There are lots of non-profit thrift stores that donate everything they earn from sales to charity. Many charities, like shelters, may be in need of furniture to use themselves. Another possible place to donate is the local high school's theater department. Call ahead, and some of these spots may even pick the furniture up for you. 

Repurpose it.

That old TV stand may not fit your brand new big screen, but if you are feeling crafty, we have seen some great children's play kitchens made from those. Dresser drawers can be stacked in a way that makes a brand new bookshelf. Pinterest is an amazing place to find all kinds of inspiration. You don't have to be handy to repurpose old furniture. It can be as simple as finding a new place in another room where the old piece fits.
