Table Talk - Style Your Home with Tables

Most people put a lot of thought into the pieces of furniture that they will be sitting or lying down on, but side tables are often an afterthought.  You will need places to hold other items in your home besides bodies.  The best furniture store at the Lake of the Ozarks has all sizes, shapes, and styles of side tables, coffee tables, and more to fill your home with.

You are sure to find the perfect table for any room at Slumberland Furniture in Osage Beach.  We carry matching sets that work beautifully together and many gorgeous pieces that aren't exactly alike but work wonderfully side by side.

Side Tables

The ideal height for a side table is approximately 1"-2" below the arm of the sofa or chair it will be next to.  The size of the table top really depends on your needs and the space that you are trying to fit it into.  Think about whether it will be used to hold books and magazines, a table lamp, setting food & beverages on, or all of the above.  If you have a couch that doesn't sit against a wall, sofa tables are an excellent option for extra tabletop space.

Coffee Tables

These take up more space than a side table, so you may want to do a little measuring before heading over to Slumberland Furniture to buy yours.  Generally, you will want it to stretch the length of the couch in the room, leaving about 18" between the seat and the table.  This is a good distance to allow everyone to use the table to set items down on but still plenty of room to sit and not bang your legs.  A good height to go for is 1"-2" below the sofa's seat.

Functionality

There are more things that you can use side tables for than simply setting things on top of it.  Choosing a table with shelves underneath lets you keep the top clear for use while still keeping magazines or other objects close.  A table with drawers is great for controlling clutter and keeping it out of sight.  If you have small children in the home, round tables are much safer than ones with sharp corners.

Table Styling Tips

After you have decided on the types of tables that will fit into your rooms, it's time to add some personality to them.  Here are a few ideas for styling your tables.

  • Collect Memories:  Picture frames or photo albums, vacation souvenirs, or a memento from a special event in your family's life work well on side tables.
  • Vary the Height:  Use knick knacks of varying heights to add some dimension to the look of the table.  A stack of books can make a higher "shelf" for them.  It also looks great to use items with different textures and shapes to keep it interesting to the eye.
  • Display a collection:  Almost everyone has something that they collect, and a table is a great space to show off some of that collection.
  • Less is More:  For the coffee table, this rule is good to keep in mind.  This table will probably get the most everyday use, so you don't want it to be too full to use.

Even though adding tables to a room is sometimes an afterthought, it is definitely a necessity.  Our Lake of the Ozarks furniture store offers a wide variety of choices so that you will be able to find exactly what you need.  Slumberland Furniture in Osage Beach is the perfect place to fill every room in your home.
