Slumberland Mattress Giveaway in December 2019

One of the best things about the Lake of the Ozarks is how quickly and easily they come together to bless the people around them. There are so many amazing outreaches and groups that you can volunteer your time with, and make a huge impact on your neighbor. One huge need we’ve noticed over the years has been the lack of beds for children of the Lake area. Some kids are sharing beds or even sleeping on the floor because there just aren’t enough resources. We believe in a good night’s sleep - so we’re hosting the annual mattress giveaway with our friends at Scott’s Concrete, and 93.5 is going to be helping us get the word out!

Here are a few things you need to know about the importance of sleep in children, the basics of kids sleep, statistics, AND, how Slumberland aims to make a change.

Why Is Sleep So Important?

Most kids have incredibly busy days, from school to after school activities, and even late nights doing homework. By the end of your day, your body needs a break, and sleep allows the body to rest for the next day.

Your body and your brain both need the sleep, and while no one is exactly sure what work your brain is doing while you are sleeping, some scientists believe that the brain sorts through and stores information, replaces chemicals, and solves problems while you catch some zzz's.

Most kids between 5 and 12 get about 9.5 hours of sleep a night, but many experts believe that children need between 10 and 11 hours of sleep each night. When children aren’t getting enough rest, it’s not uncommon to feel tired, cranky, and unable to think clearly. Some may have trouble following directions, others may not even be able to follow school assignments that would normally be easy for them.

The Problem and the Solution

Slumberland at the Lake of the Ozarks opened in 2008, and that same year, we realized the great need for mattresses for kids across the Ozarks. In so many households across our community, children are sleeping on floors or sofas, and many are even sharing those small spaces with siblings. If anyone understands and values the impact of sleep, it’s Slumberland - which is why it’s our goal to get children sleeping comfortably in a mattress and off of the floor.

We are so proud to partner with Scott’s Concrete to make this dream a reality, or maybe we want to keep it a dream, the kinds of dreams kids have when they are in a comfortable bed getting a good night’s sleep. They have been teaming up with us since 2014, and together we rely on the community to help get us the referrals and phone numbers for families where children aren’t in ideal sleeping situations.

The best news of all is that this year we will be donating ONE HUNDRED mattresses in December!

The biggest need we have right now is for the names and numbers of families with children who need beds. This Christmas season, if you know children in need of a bed, we want to help. More Than a Turkey on the Table

The season of thankfulness and food is upon us. The days are getting colder, the nights are getting longer, and before you know it - you’ll start to see the family gathering. Gathering around the dinner table at your Lake of the Ozarks home is a pastime, and the perfect way to make the most out of the dark evenings. Whether this includes playing games around the table or indulging in a delicious meal together, the month of November is dedicated to gathering and being thankful. As you prepare for the winter season and the Thanksgiving holiday, now is the perfect time to get your table decorated!

Here at Slumberland at the Lake, we love to help our favorite fans make their home beautiful, welcoming, and even make a few statements! Here are a few tips for decorating your Thanksgiving dining room table at the Lake of the Ozarks over the next few weeks. Cozy & Casual

If you are looking to create a comfortable and casual look with your dining room table, there are some incredible options out there. You can cover your chairs in plush and comfortable textures to give them that elevated feel. You can dress the table with a variety of relaxed patterns like stripes or minimized polka dots. Cloth napkins are always a must, as they take the feel of your table up several notches. A few simple place cards, some flameless candles, no-fuss foliage casually laid down the runner and a simple bowl with pumpkins can be a really relaxed way to make your table shine.

Make it White

As we move into the winter months, white is a classic, clean look that will really make your Thanksgiving themes pop! You can coordinate white and gray plates for the table setting and complete them with a folded white cloth napkin. Simple greenery running down the center of the table complete with a variety of faux and real white pumpkins can really set the stage for sophistication and glamor. It’s fresh with the green and white, but also has an incredibly classy touch.

Pumpkins Galore

You’ll notice in a lot of trending styles that pumpkins are all of the rage when it comes to table settings. This includes pumpkins of every color, so if you aren’t a fan of orange, you can still grace your table with these charming fall-themed gourds.
