How to Choose the Perfect Bed Frame Style

If you’ve ever gone shopping for a new bed, you probably remember how many decisions could be made about this choice! Check the Size of the Bed

It shouldn’t be a surprise, but the size of the mattress makes a huge difference in the size of the bed frame. You’ll also want to make sure that it will fit in your room, between nightstands, and allows plenty of room for you to still navigate around the space. These are the most common bed sizes:

Twin
Usually, this size is 38 inches wide by 75 inches long. It generally fits an adult, but it may not be long enough. It’s a great choice in kids’ rooms, but may not be ideal in your spare or guest bedroom.

Full
This size generally measures 53 inches wide by 75 inches long. It’s enough space for a single sleeper, but can be a tight fit for two if necessary.

Queen
A queen bed measures around 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. It’s a great choice for couples who don’t need as much sleeping space, or who want more living space in their bedroom.

King
A king bed measures 76 inches wide by 80 inches long. They are a great choice for couples who want maximum personal sleeping space. It can, however, take up a large space in a bedroom, so check the dimensions first.

California King
The dimensions of this bed are usually 72 inches by 84 inches. This is an excellent choice for a large bedroom as it can help fill the space. It also provides plenty of room for sleeping comfortably.

What Frame Are You Looking For?

A traditional bed frame will require a box spring, and then the mattress, however, a platform bed would eliminate the need for the box spring. The reasoning is because a platform bed allows the mattress to sit directly on the support. This style is definitely gaining popularity because it eliminates the additional cost and hassle of buying more pieces for your bed. However, it could also mean that your bed is shorter, and you will need to be aware of the types of support that are underneath.

A bed frame can attach any headboard and footboard that you would like (generally, and with the right hardware), which makes it easy to change your style.

Headboards & Footboards

If you are interested in adding a footboard or headboard to your bed, you’ll want to make sure that the frame matches what you already have or are purchasing. Sometimes headboards can be bolt-on, others are hook-on, and different brackets are needed for each. Footboard brackets also do not often come standard with a bed frame, so they may have to be purchased separately, depending on your situation.
